Not All "Naturopathic Doctors" Actually Are
I have pasted a link from a recent article in the Seattle Times. http://archives.seattletimes.nwsource.com/cgi-bin/texis.cgi/web/vortex/display?slug=miracle20m0&date=20071120&query=other+government
As you will read, the naturopath in question had bogus degrees. This is not something that is exclusive to the US by any means. How to tell if someone is a licensed naturopath? In Canada call the Board that licenses us and ask them: Phone: 416.866.8383 or email at office@bddtn.on.ca
The problem is that there are "schools" and "programs" throughout Canada and the US that offer diplomas in Naturopathic Medicine, but they actually have no accreditation or regulation of any kind. There are even "mail order" diplomas, where the entire program is done by correspondence. There are only a very small handful of schools in North America that grant naturopathic degrees that are legitimate and allow the graduate to obtain registration and licensure through the Board; I have listed these below. In Canada there is another "board" granting licenses and registration, but anyone with a diploma (even from one of the unrecognized schools) can get a license there. So stick with the Board whose number I have given above (for Canada). For the US, go to http://www.naturopathic.org/viewbulletin.php?id=118 This is a page on the American Association of Naturopathic Physicians website that lists various licensing information for different states. Or, you could just call the association and get them to point you in the right direction for your state.
This is a current list of the only approved naturopathic schools in North America.
