Permax (pergolide) being pulled from market

Permax is a drug that has been around for 16 years, but the maker of this drug (Eli Lily) has recently decided to pull this drug from both the Canadian and American markets due to the risk of heart valve damage. If you are on this drug, go to your doctor immediately to have your prescription changed. DO NOT stop taking your medication on your own. Although previous findings had linked pergolide with heart valve damage, the risks have recently been shown to be higher than initially thought. Moderate to severe heart valve problems were seen in 23 percent of people taking pergolide, and unfortunately, the only current treatment for this is heart valve replacement surgery.
