Gelato from scratch

I don't usually write about sweet treats and such, but I think it's a good idea to write down whatever tips come to mind as I go along. That and the fact that I had a bit of gelato today and so that's why it came to mind.

You can tell if a gelato place makes their ices from scratch or from a mix by looking at the banana. If it is yellow, it's from a mix and if it's gray-ish, it's from scratch. This is because, as anyone who's ever let a banana shake sit around for too long can tell you, bananas turn brown-ish gray as they sit and the bananas in gelato made from scratch is no exception. If they don't have banana, you could just go the old-fashioned route and ask.
