Dental work and antibiotics

Many people with a variety of heart and heart-valve conditions take antibiotics before dental work as a preventative measure. I have recently been informed from a reliable source that the Heart and Stroke Association has changed their regulations on this and that unless a person has a large amount of regurgitation or a lot of infection, that this measure will  no longer be necessary. HOWEVER, I cannot find this information on the Heart and Stroke Association's website so be sure to ask your doctor or cardiologist next time you go for a visit. Until you get your doctor's confirmation, continue to use your antibiotics as prescribed before any dental work. For people with heart abnormalities, this will allow many people to use a lot less antibiotics than in the past and that is very encouraging!
