Foods That Are Good for Your Liver

Many people have asked me which foods are good for their liver. Here is a list of foods -- to avoid and to include -- that promote the liver's detoxification pathways in general. Including these foods in your daily diet (and minimizing or excluding others) helps to keep your liver humming along nicely.

 

Avoid the following:

Foods high in saturated fat (lard, mammal meats, cream, cheese, eggs)

Hydrogenated and poor quality fats (Shortening, margarine, refined oils)

Excesses of nuts and seeds

Alcohol

Highly processed foods

Fiery, hot foods

 

Include as many of the following as possible in your daily diet:

Seaweed

Celery

Mung beans

Onions and related (eg. Scallions, garlic)

Mustard greens

Radish, daikon radish, radish greens

Mushrooms

Beets

Taro root

Kohlrabi

Cauliflower

Broccoli

Brussel sprouts

Romaine

Asparagus

Watercress

Tumeric

Basil

Bay leaves

Cardamom

Marjoram

Fennel

Dill

Ginger

Black pepper

Horseradish

Rosemary

Alfalfa

Mints (Spear--, pepper--)

Vinegar – unrefined apple cider vinegar, brown rice vinegar, rice-wine vinegar

Strawberry

Peach

Cherry

Millet

Sweet rice

Rye

Amaranth

Quinoa

Chamomile
